A key factor in any SEO campaign is link building. Building links is pivotal in being competitive in the search engines. But how do you go about doing so? It’s important to remember not all links are created equal. But which links should you be building? I like to compare types of links to types of alcoholic drinks.
1 – Link bait – Cognac (Henri IV Dudognon Heritage) – worth spending your money on, QUALITY MATTERS!
2 – Competition links – Whisky (The Macallan worth $75,000); IT’S WORTH IT (no I didn’t copy that line from Loreal)!
3 – Blogs & Blogosphere – Jack Daniels (a nice design can link from CSS Vault) – now who can say no to good old Jack?
4 – Design as a Linking Element – Wine (Chateau Lafitteis – Easy to consume and you get good results)
5 – Buying Links – New Jersey Turnpike
(you will certainly pay for it!)
6 – Blog commenting – Tequila (cheap drink, not because of the money but because it works but too many of that doesn’t make it natural!)
7 – Forum spam – I feel sorry for you!
8 – Directories – Beer (there are a lot of them, but I guess worth spending money on.)
9 – Social Bookmarking – Nonalcoholic beverages!
10 – Article Directories – Smirnoff Ice (you can drink a lot before getting drunk – waste of time and money)
11 – Link Exchange – The Tapeworm
There are other link building techniques I haven’t mentioned such as:
- Reviews
- Easy, free links
- The links you get from creating controversies
- Conferences & social interaction
- Spamming
- Word of mouth
It’s because it’s Friday and I am running late as my friends are waiting for me at the local pub. Cheers!

There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well
